Shrek 2

Shrek 2

I kinda missed the first one, only watching it on DVD a year after it’s release. The followup is a lot smarter, hitting the “double-level” comedy bracket perfectly with tons of jokes for the adults, numerous movie mentions, and some real belly laugh moments. Jennifer Saunders turn as the Fairy Godmother is superb, as is John Cleese as the Princess Fiona’s father (the King obviously) a reprisal of a certain, much loved, cranky hotel owner (including reference to an old war wound). Donkey remains Eddie Murphy’s finest work for some time, and the whole thing zips along, cramming in joke after joke, clever product placement, movie tie-ins, without a pause. If you want an hour and a half of fun, I’d highly recommend you watch this – the kid in you will love it!
