Mantra

Reading time: < 1 min

Once upon a time there was a guy. He put together a website. He posted some stuff about himself, some rants, and other bits and bobs. So far the story has no end. So far…

Stuck in a kind of limbo – loads of ideas, yet keep getting pulled back to handle the present. Oh and to everyone who reads this, yes I DO know who you are, and no I don’t give a rat’s ass what you think. As I’ve said before, there is more to me than I can contain in a website. Mind you I’m once again wondering if this will continue. If it is to provide cheap entertainment and gossip, then I won’t bother. God that sounds petulant, time to repeat my mantra – this site is for me – not for you, this site is for me – not for you.

Evolution

Reading time: 2 mins

The human species is evolving. But into what?

Recent propositions have detailed a system where you can order products that you see when watching a film or tv programme. Product placement is now commonplace in major blockbusters, so now when you think – hey cool phone! – all you will need to do is push a button to order it.

WAP phones enable you to access up-to-the-minute information and news. The next generation will feature an ‘always-on’ connection, allowing business to push information out to you – when you are walking past your local cinema your phone will beep and you will be able to get cut-price tickets to the latest movie…walking past a fast food chain, it’ll tell you the latest tasty(?) deals.

You have a wealth of information available to you, and every day information is pushed at you from all sources. So much information to process, you probably spend a large amount of your time just deciding which bits of information you want to keep and which to ignore or discard.

And so we begin the evolution, we don’t need to get up, we can have food and products delivered. We only need to be able to process information. Soon social convention will kick in (it’s beginning already) to make the stay-at-home information human an acceptable reality. The life-span will shorten, due of lack of exercise and proper nutrition, and the body shape will change. The brain will grow, the arms become more fixed in a palms down hands out position, and legs will slowly shorten and disappear.

Yeuch…amorphous blobs, huge brains. Kinda like the Mekon meets Jabba the Hutt.

Alongside this there will be a separate species of human. One who is able to step away from this madness. Breathe fresh air. Walk in the park. Swim in the oceans. Ohhh wait, that one already exists.

Who wants … to care

So I hear that someone finally won £1million on the damn show – I wonder how long it took to get Chris Tarrant to actually confirm her final answer was correct (if you are guessing that this particular programme annoys me you’d be understating). But was it a fix? Not only was the woman Camilla Parker Bowles cousin, which doesn’t count for anything as the royals and lords and ladies of England are expert at inter-breeding.. but it turns out she acted out of character, and didn’t seem too suprised to have won. Fix? WHO CARES!!!

In other breaking news, I should hopefully finish of the stunningly UNoriginal re-design soon – and yes I will credit those that I may have ‘borrowed’ and idea or two from..

Ohh… and someone remind me to email S in Oz (SinOz) – the Sin bit is apt!! LOL

Ostrich

Reading time: < 1 min

I fully expect to be aching by the end of the weekend. Beer tonight (hey it’s Friday you know…), then helping friends move into their new flat. Probably more beer, then a very quiet day on Sunday which will no doubt turn into an Xmas shopping day. I’m almost looking forward to Monday already!

I’m currently becoming quite apathetic towards many things, anything involving pressure that is… I’m seriously considering the Ostrich approach, and if I decide to take that route, I will make sure everyone knows it! (You and I both know that I won’t but it’s a nice thought isn’t… just bury your head in the sand whilst the bombs go off overhead… ahhh bliss….).

Anyway, leaping back to reality… pressure at work will be.. icky.. next week. So I apologies for anything I say here, I fully expect to be venting my stress and frustration on you dear reader – apologies in advance.

Planning

A few nice suprises yesterday, one of which wasn’t when my PalmPilot (III) started looking ill. Screen had gone all broken up… strange. Checked out Palm Support, newsgroups, everywhere I could. Ended up hard resetting and losing a lot of stuff. Which brings me round to my point. Planning. I’m terrible at this sort of thing. I’m always too optimistic, which is odd because I don’t consider it my nature.

Also at a reasonably critical juncture career-wise. Need to clear out a few things (for want of a better term). Who knows, they may take care of themselves. Either way it will mean changes. Change which is good. Change away from the familiar, so I will have to start learning again. Could be fun. Better be rewarding!

Wonder Boys

Wonder Boys – good film.

Nothing spectacular, and gave me the same feel that American Beauty did (well not quite as much). Tobey Maguire was excellent, Michael Douglas was quietly superb, and for the small amount of time she had, Frances McDormand was her usual self, effective and supremely watchable. Robert Downey Jr. even managed to keep it together.

And yes I have thought about writing a book, but hasn’t everyone? Hell I’ve had a ‘story’ for ages… hmmm might be a project for me? But then I can’t even manage to get writing for this site… let alone for a book – how the hell would I find the will and the time to do that? Eh!?

Ohhh and if ANYONE from ITV2 is reading, or anyone who knows someone (or even anyone who knows someone who knows someone else) that works there – get the NBA back on – it’s been going for weeks, and I’ve still to see a game!! GET IT SORTED OUT!
