Bland eccentricity

There has been a spate of high profile deaths recently (I shudder to call them “celebrities” but what other catch-all phrase would suffice?) and I’m beginning to wonder where the gaps left by some of these people will be filled. Emlyn Hughes, Fred Dibna, and John Peel were all afforded a level of cult status, for a variety of reasons, and I’m struggling to think where anyone similar will emerge from.

Does the modern world have no place for the eccentric, the maverick who remains true to his roots?
