Ohhh what the hell

As the article itself states “I won’t waste your time getting into the ethics of file-sharing, or the debate over whether it helps or hurts record sales”. (Although I think I agree with most of Meg’s comments on this topic).

I have to post this: How To Survive Without Audiogalaxy: A Guide to File-Sharing Alternatives. I’d already tagged onto a few alternatives a while ago, and to be honest I’m only really posting this so I don’t lose the link (it’s currently at number 2 at DayPop but better safe than sorry).

Shopping

Completely unrelated to the post below but if I DID have £2700, this little item may appear on my shopping list.

I’ve not got a DVD player, I use my PlayStation 2 for that, mainly because I have around 400 films on video.

Now if only the JVC HR-XV1 had a DVD recorder, I’d be sold!

500kph Train

Maglev test train

Wow. Fast.

I’m trying to think how this train would cope on British railway lines. No longer would the “leaves on the line” excuse work, would it? I also wonder about vandals, and cows on the line and such like, does Japan have the same issues? (The departure of the 3:15 to Osaka is delayed as there is a Pokemon on the track?).

Thinking about it this train would be ideal for the Glasgow to London sleeper. It would also stop the false advertising that accompanies the aforementioned service – sleeper? are you kidding me! only way to get to sleep was to get plastered, which left you hungover on a shoggly, noisy train the next morning. Not a pleasant experience, especially before a job interview (but that’s another story completely).

The geek in me says “Cool, I want a shot!”

The pessimist says “Safety first please”.

Conspiracy

On Monday I mentioned switching from PC to Mac. And it seems that the whole thing is beginning to gain ground.

Proof of the pudding – the almighty Kottke has posted about it, and it’s currently number one on the Daypop Top 40.

Bye bye PC?

My home PC is now some 5 years old. A geriatric which is showing noticeable signs of old age. So I’m looking for a cheap way to get something new. I mainly use the home PC for email, surfing, designing web sites (sorry, mucking about with HTML), a little graphic work, letter writing and listening to MP3s. Do I really need a PC?

Apple – Switch is trying to convince me otherwise, and I must say it is very persuasive. I’ve got a mate who just purchased a G4, I think a visit is called for to see what all the fuss is about. Maybe…

I’m actually an ‘old’ Mac user – Mac Plus and SE (this followed on from old BBC MicroComputers), so it might be fun to see how far they have come as, bar a brief flirtation with a PowerPC about 3 years ago, I’ve not touched a Mac for ohhh 10 years? Probably longer.

Hmmm whaddya think?

Clever or useless

I think clever, but I’m not sure, probably the geek in me going all: “Awesome / Cool” etc etc. What do you think?
