Ann was Friday’s Daily Deviation at Deviantart. I never noticed, my bad.
Well deserved though, from a fellow ‘community lurker’ (signed up on DevArt about a year ago and have posted… 3 things?) to another, I am very jealous! But in a nice way…
Random burblings since 1999

I never realised there were so many options available for altering and tinkering with your PC hardware. You could say this kind of thing is a bit geeky. And you’d be correct. But I have to admit the geek in me is saying “Whoooaaaa, COOL!” (in a surf-dude stylee).
Plenty of information to be found at “MetkuMods – Because you love your hardware.”
Is it just me, or is this article from the BBC News team a bit, well, …old: Net users seek first and surf later
I thought that this was widely accepted as the primary method of navigation for most internet users (and when I say most I really mean “more experienced”, savvy users). You either hit a favourite site, or you search for some new information (via Google of course).
Yes I do ‘surf’ but not very far from the source these days. I think people are just becoming more aware of what they are looking for and there is much less “surfing to find something weird/cool/extraordinary”, especially since we have MeFi, Slashdot and memepool etc to do that for us.
Or maybe I’m just too experienced on the net for my own good, maybe these surveys should ignore people like me who are set in their ways, and concentrate on newer arrivals in this online paradise (paradise? who am I kidding!).
Lost my train of thought now, what was I trying to say?
“If you send this email to 7 people in the next half hour, good things will happen to you”
I still shudder in disbelief when I receive an email like this. A few friends (and family!) keep sending this crap on to me, and I’m beginning to get annoyed at the few seconds it takes me to delete the damn thing. What I’m wondering is, do people (and I’m generalising hugely here, I know) think that these things actually work?
It’s ridiculous. Considering this report shows that a large portion of people using the internet (whether they are new to it or not) are well off. With that I presume that most are in higher paying jobs and so must be of average, or above, intelligence. That’s not an unfair presumption is it?
So why do I still get these flaming chain emails!!!
They come from friends who I know are at least capable of making rational decisions (well just about all of them ;-)) so what is it about the internet that seems to remove any common sense or decision making intelligence that they have… are we living in a conditioned illusion? Are we sheeple? Or am I getting my references mixed up?
OK, I’m cranky and tired but I think that little piece was quite cleverly worked, it’s almost like I thought about it before I started typing… but I ain’t that clever… but you know that… and now I’m rambling.
Time for another coffee.
Ideal lunchtime fodder this, although I’ve been doing these for a couple of weeks and have to admit I’ve yet to complete one without ‘cheating’ or checking: Crossword Central.
My entry is over there on the right, but kudos to Leia for finding, as the lady herself puts it “the most fascinating and beautiful mirror project photo ever”. I like the way she understates things.
Rather than rip the link I thought it would be nice, for a change to let you wander over to the large head and find it from there (I’ve helped as much as I can…).
