Planned

In what is rapidly becoming a standard Friday post, I’m going to look ahead to the weekend coming and, once again, list several things that I won’t do despite planning to.

First up is to get some items onto eBay. Unless of course any of you would like to purchase one of 50 Pocket Dragons that we are hoping to be rid of (I should perhaps mention that these little green critters were a passion for Louise, we even attended a ‘members’ day once… no, seriously..).

Possibly a visit or two to the cinema. Still to see “Cold Mountain” (not something I’m immensely bothered about) Neither of us is too bothered about seeing “Cold Mountain”, so that leaves “Big Fish” and “School of Rock”. Unfortunately I’ll probably end up being dragged along to see “Cheaper by the Dozen” which features a certain Tom Welling whom my wife has a bit of a crush on…

Ehhh….

Louise mentioned something about washing the car, I keep threatening to tidy out a couple of boxes of PC stuff (cables, old speakers, keyboards etc), and there was mention of going for a walk…

All of the above is, of course, subject to whim and whimsy.

Any suggestions for a cheap weekend activity?

Pros and cons

There are many advantages to working at home, which is why I try and do it at least once a week. They include:

  • Peace and quiet – as a technical writer, a large portion of my time is spent.. writing. The consideration of how to phrase a sentence, link one item of information with another, deciphering a functional specification, etc etc, is easiest done with no distractions.
  • Wearing your scraggy jogging bottoms all day.
  • Drinking good coffee.
  • Getting up at 8 am, and starting work at 8.20 am.
  • No temptation of cakes.
  • Listening to music through speakers (as opposed to headphones).

All good really.

Aside from the burglar alarm that has been going off for the past two hours. Kinda screws up that whole peace and quiet thing.

To coin a phrase: if it doesn’t stop soon I’ll have to go and ‘attend’ to it with a large hammer.

MT is dead, long live MT?

(Completely the wrong quote in the title (above) but I’ll damn well abuse my site anyway I see fit…)

Why your Movable Type blog must die

Excellent. I love this kind of ranting nonsense. Somewhere in there he is making some kind of sense. However the urge to reach over and slap him is almost overwhelming.

Worth a gander if only for the comments. THIS, ladies and gentlemen, is social interaction internet style!

AARGH!

BBC Anything But Impartial (via Vaughan)

I should really muster more energy from the rage this has given raise to, but I simply don’t want to waste it on something that is soooo far beneath us all.

“I watched the BBC’s output during the war … posing questions that revealed an anti-war and anti-American agenda, not to mention the huge issue of chasing Tony Blair around for the crime of being so friendly to the Americans.”

*sighs*

Anti-war = anti-American?

“the BBC displayed the biases of Britain’s chattering classes — that Bush was a moron, that the war was illegal and immoral, that the American people were too stupid to elect a man who ends up running the world, and that somebody smart enough — like the Brits — should take over that all-important job.”

“Bush was a moron” – ahem.. “WAS”?
“the war was illegal and immoral” – it was.
“American people were too stupid” – Eh? I think you’ll find that it was a clever designed voting system that ‘elected’ George W.

I read a comment somewhere (sorry can’t recall where) that the whole ‘Janet/nipple’ debacle has prompted a federal investigation, this is despite the fact that a war that is STILL claiming lives has taken a year to get to that stage and doesn’t seem to be getting much further.

No, I’m not saying any more.

Mind you, I’ve got a full crate of ‘pent-up rage’ energy here… any offers?

No names

“Orkut is *rather dull*”

I concur.

Or maybe it’s me (us) that aren’t using it properly…

R.I.P.

So Rikki Fulton has passed away, and with him memories of some great “Scotch & Wry” moments.

The following is unsubstantiated and may be completely nonsense (but it’s funny and apt):

“Rikki Fulton received an amusing tribute from Alzheimers Scotland society, “The 61,000 sufferers of Alzheimers in Scotland will always remember him for his bravery…”

I think he would have appreciated that.
