Monday was a day off, already can’t quite remember what I did with it. Oh yes, a wander round the shops and some sushi. Nice to hang out with my beautiful wife, sans Jack for a change.
Tuesday was the day of the Alanis Morissette gig, and it was glorious. The weather held, the crowd was in good spirits, and OMG what a voice. I was fully in bits, tears streaming down my face at one point. Not that that is anything unusual but this was much more specific that my usual overwhelm around the joy of live music and people being nice to each other etc. Skunk Anansie ripped faces off, Wet Leg bounced around a bit and were pretty catchy, and I had 5 pints of cider! Easily the most alcohol I’ve drank since… ummm… for several months!
A birthday party for a 5 year old yesterday. A horde of kids charging around with a bouncy castle, and other inflatable things. and somehow I ended up on the floor with a huge pile of cushioned blocks and kids jumping on me. Yup, I’m THAT Dad. What fun!
World Cup continues and I’m catching bits of games here and there but no longer interested in staying up until stupid o’clock. Do need to dig my Mexico flag out mind you…
And the Tour de France has started but I’m not gonna watch it live, alas, as can’t really justify spending that much for the subscription (for a year) for what I’ll only use for 3 weeks.
Aside from that, still managing to do some form of exercise every day, and it’s getting ramped up a little and still feels very manageable. Yay.
📚 Books
Imperfect Women by Araminta Hall – just over halfway through this and, it’s fine. Spending a little too long on some of the backstory I think but I’m intrigued enough to keep reading.

My Father Wants to Age in Place. AI Will Be Watching | Architectural Digest — When my parents moved to their flat, after my Mums stroke, they had webcams in the living room, kitchen and bedroom, so my Dad could check on Mum when he was out. This was before AI, but I think when I get older this is likely a solution we’ll consider.
i’m gonna be the next marie kondo — Having been through similar revelations concerning the removal of ‘stuff’ this post makes me wanna go on another such spree. Molly’s approach and question are worth a look.
Star City – Caught the last episode today. I love this kinda of series that starts slow and before you know it you are OMGing out loud (no spoilers here though). It’s all so well acted too, subtle but powerful.
Sugar – Very watchable if a little too fond of relying on the viewer suspending disbelief. Making me think about old movies too..
And fully committing to Crucial Tracks too, what a fun idea.
🫀 Health
Current Weight: 111.2kg. Back up, but given the day before was the gig, a few ciders, and only 4hrs sleep, I’m hoping next week will see a drop again.
Avg. Sleep: 7h 8mins. Back up to a more sustainable level and I really do notice the difference in my energy levels.
Muscle ache in my back though, a long persistent problem that I think I might to get a physio to check soon. Same goes for my knee, still determined to get to a ParkRun this year though.
🗓️ Next Week
Back to normal work week. Not much else planned for me.
