Web access at work
Rather ironically I give you this article about web access at work.
“More and more workers are going online while on the job. Is it time for companies to restrict this privilege, or loosen the leash to keep employees happy?”

Our company is quite relaxed about this, and I have to agree with one of the statements: “companies are becoming more understanding about personal Web use as they acknowledge that employees are working longer hours and from home as well”.

My take on this issue is quite simple. I am a professional. I take pride in doing the best job I can. Yes, I use the internet for research and yes I use it for personal use. I am also confident that my productivity, efficiency (how did we keep update with new technologies BEFORE the internet?), and quality of my work has improved. I would think it is very much a case of acting like a professional and expecting to be treated the same way. Of course this can’t and doesn’t always apply, but such is the way of things.

Collective design
Interesting idea that may be doomed to failure. A collaborative effort at designing a typeface relying solely on interpretation and ultimately reliant on anyone who happens to wander past.

I would like to be positive about this, but in reality we all know what will happen, in fact it has already started. Go visit to see what I mean.

Can't think of a title

Maybe it’s because I’ve not slept for several nights, but I’m grumpy and depressed and trying very hard to keep a pleasant cheery face on at work (which in the face of redundancies is very hard, especially when some close friends are likely to go).

I’m tempted to be childish and resort to bad language (“Fuck it”) or try and act like a grown up. Obviously the childish option is the easier, but I know where it leads, and I’m really not willing to go down that path again.

In fact the only reason I’m typing this is for the want of something to say.

Ohhh, one thing. If you have any suggestions for a re-design (links, ideas etc) please pass them on, I’m running short on creative juices at the moment and could do with some inspiration.

So much to say

Just can’t find the words at the moment. For some reason I’m suffering from post-holiday blogging blues, without actually having been on holiday.

No doubt I’ll snap out of it in about five minutes or so, but for the meantime, I suggest you visit one of these excellent sites (yes I know it needs updated, drop me a line if you aren’t listed and think you should be… bribes accepted of course)

Did I know this?
I am in an O’Reilly book. I remember emailing my contribution to this ages ago but had forgotten all about it. Seems I am the first piece they listed in the chapter entitled “Blogging Voices”. Did I know this?
Here is the proof: Essential Blogging.

Either way – v.cool! Would LOVE to hear from anyone who has this book (I will nip out and buy a copy tomorrow I think, although I’ve just checked and it’s £17!)
