Crucial Track – 29 July 2026

What’s your favorite song to listen to in the rain?

One morning on my commute to work, I was flicking through tracks in a playlist as the bus shuffled it’s way from stop to stop. It was a grey morning, mid-Autumn, and a few stops before mine the rain started to fall. A shower, nothing heavy, but enough to pop umbrellas open, zip jackets closed, and add a briskness to the step.

As I stepped off the bus, with a 10 minute walk to my favourite coffee shop, the drizzle remained. Hood up, head down, I let the playlist shuffle do its magic.

I turned a corner onto the large pedestrian area of Buchanan Street, normally a busy bustling area, and it was completely empty. It was early, and the rain had painted the wide slabbed pavement a slick rendering, reflecting shop window neon. It was eerily beautiful.

At the same time this song came on. I slowed my pace and made my down the street, my mind swirling me away to a future world, a movie scene vividly writ in my imagination.

A heart beat in the morning rain.
