Share a song that captures the feeling of being seventeen.
Whilst I may be in danger of filling my crucial tracks with Elbow songs —although is that such a bad thing?— Guy Garvey is such a wonderful lyricist, and paints such evocative pictures with his prose, that’s hard for me to choose anything else.
I first heard this album on the day it was released, sat in a pub in Glasgow as part of an invite to the ‘listening party launch’. Immediately afterwards I headed home and listened to the whole album again. Two tracks grabbed my emotions, and this was one of them.
As a 17 year old I was in the throes of a new life, a girlfriend, alcohol, and making new friends that weren’t from my school. It was exciting to finally find like minds and souls, but also challenging at such an odd time when we were all discovering ourselves.
I too never perfected that simian stroll but as I grasped hold of adulthood, with a younger sister, I was always drawn back to the simple pleasures of childhood. Build a rocket boys.
