Jack and I were away for the weekend in Vera (our motorhome).
We stayed at the very lovely Blair Drummond Campsite. Yet I bet most people who read the title of the post presumed I was going to talk about the nearby Safari Park —I will in a minute.
I picked up Jack up from nursery on Friday, and we drove straight to the campsite, had ice cream before dinner, set up Vera for our two night stay, found the play area, and ended the evening (after dinner and showers) playing with his frisbee whilst he ran about in his pyjamas.
On Saturday we wandered through the forest to a farm shop for coffee (for me) and cake (for him), and in the afternoon we headed out on our bikes to check out Doune castle (where they filmed some parts of that Monty Python movie).

We didn’t get there as the path we had cycled along got progressively overgrown and then just… stopped. We MAY have been able to walk the final 15 mins or so but I didn’t fancy us pushing our bikes through the brambles and nettles so we turned around. We may also have had to stop there anyway as someone needed a poo and was ‘bursting’. One bush poo later…
We spent the latter part of the afternoon in the play area, on the swings, zip slide, hanging from bars, and then had noodles and garlic bread for dinner (him), and a rather undercooked pizza (me).

Sunday saw his head to the aforementioned Safari Park. Jack loves it, and I know they do a lot of good conservation work but I still have an ick about keeping animals in captivity. We do have season passes and, even though we were two weeks ago, Jack still charged around like it was the first time he’d seen any of it. As ever, we spent most time watching the giraffes.
I was barely on my phone all weekend, but did manage to watch some of the World Cup once Jack had fallen asleep. It was lovely to just be there with him, take the world at his pace, see it through his eyes, and marvel at what a well balanced, thoughtful, cheeky boy we have managed to raise.
I can’t wait for the next adventure with him!
