Only in America
Or maybe that should be, Only on the Internet…

Crunch! Giant Chee-to spurs online frenzy. Yes. Ladeez and Gennlemen! Roll up and see the GIANT Chee-to*, gasp in awe at it’s girth, marvel at it’s length (hey this is beginning to sound slightly pornographic), rush to eBay to bid for ownership!!

Ohhh and you can blame AnnMarie for sending me the link 😉

* A cheese flavoured, fried cornmeal snack that appears to be quite popular.

The weekend looms near
It’s only Thursday lunchtime and already I’m thinking about the weekend. Friday night will see a quick trip to the pub to see off a work colleague who is leaving and heading off to New Zealand (good luck Heather!). We are ‘baby-sitting’ our niece and nephew (who are 13 and 16 respectively and would HATE it if they found out that I’d just called it baby-sitting ;-), which will probably entail a trip to the cinema. No doubt Christopher will want to see either Daredevil or Jackass. With the latter being an 18 I’m a tad wary but he is a sensible kid, and much more mature than I was at his age, hmmm we’ll see. Joanne and Louise can go off and see some chick-flick (probably that J-Lo one), and no doubt Chris and I will end up on the PS2 until the wee small hours.

I also want to get the ‘office’ at home sorted out, and fit the new remote control light switches we picked up last weekend, add in the rugby, F1 and the closing of the weekend with 24 and it looks like being a fairly packed weekend.

Better make sure I get an early night tonight.

Spotted
The rather excellent picture of Roisin they are using for the new Moloko album Statues.

Ohh that’s just fecking great
I hate them. It’s irrational and nothing too severe, but they make me feel very uncomfortable. Snakes are fine, spiders are alright but wasps.. no don’t like them one bit.

So how come I find one (dying hopefully) on my way up the stairs when I got home tonight? Big bugger too, made a right mess when I squished it.

First time I can recall seeing one in March mind you, especially when it’s this cold.

Monkeybombing?

Ugly sentiments sting American tourists. Interesting article about how American tourists are being perceived in Europe. Includes some tips for American tourists wanting to avoid confrontation, e.g. “Soften your speech; Americans typically overshadow their hosts in the volume department” which in itself is atypical (‘overshadow’ – what an understatement). Thankfully the article does point out that most people in Europe are against the American government and the way it portrays itself, but quite welcoming to Americans in general, I’ve heard there are a couple of them that aren’t too bad… 😉

And nicely related to the previous link is this article by Simon Schama: The Unloved American ?It is incredible how naively cocksure Americans are in their belief that they can whip any enemy whatsoever,? noted Knut Hamsun in the 1880s.

At Google, the Proof Is in the People. A meteoric rise to prominence, which cannot be denied, has been founded on the belief that employees come first. Man, I hope someone from our office reads this (think I’ll forward it on to our HR Manager anyway)
