Uses

I keep my ‘tech’ as simple as possible.

My current setup:

  • MacBook Air, M4, 15″ (2025) – my main personal computer, everything I DO I do on this amazing laptop.
  • An Asus Monitor (inherited from my Dad) – mostly used for work (on the work supplied Dell / Windows laptop, UGH).
  • Desktop Pad – from Amazon somewhere.
  • Bluelounge Sumo Desktop cable management – discontinued but I love this (I have 2).
  • HomePod mini – mostly for music, still not quite gotten Siri set up ‘right’ as my phone will always trigger first. We have Alexa in the living room for turning on lights, mostly.
  • iPhone 14 Pro – breaking out of the endless upgrade cycle, although this does have a new battery in it and, soon, will move largely to get USB-C charging (will depend on my wife making a similar move from her iPhone 13). Our iPhones are the last things NOT chargeable by USB-C.
  • Apple Watch 10 – I’ve had an Apple Watch since they first came out (had a Pebble before that). I’ve been a watch wearer my entire life so it was an easy ‘upgrade’. Likely to go Ultra next time although not entirely sure why I think that.
  • ESRTech Charging Dock – in white, for my phone and headphones and watch.
  • iPad Air (2022) – Mostly for media consumption and Zwift, occasionally a Home assistant for when the babysitters are round (all lights and the TV can be controlled by it).
  • Metapen Pencil D1 – to help me markup the draft of the novel I’m slowly working on via my iPad! I thought “PDF and Apple Pencil” would be perfect. Except I lost my Apple Pencil years ago and never really used it. Thankfully this one is just as good, if not a little better with additional functionality by button click.
  • AirPods Pro – still not hugely enjoying the ‘fit’ but the Comply foam tips helped. It helps that they just work, chuck them in and wear them for hours.
  • Stand / Sit Desk – bought in the first week of full COVID lockdown, has undoubtedly paid for itself and saved my hips/back a whole lot of pain. Mechanism bought from a German company I can’t recall, and fixed to an existing IKEA desktop.
  • Ego-Tek Mesh Office Chair – when I need to sit, may as well sit on something comfortable.
  • Office Mat – to help my chair roll better on the wooden floor.
  • Coffee Warmer – a simple USB device, cheap from Amazon, life changing for when you forget to drink your coffee and it goes cold… not anymore!

I should probably take a better photo, after I’ve tidied my desk but hey ho, this is how it normally looks! Shout out to the Amazon find of a clip on light for all my Teams meetings!
