bookmark_borderPreacher Preacher

The one thing that always fascinates me about other people is that their opinions can be so wrong.

Of course when I say wrong I mean ‘different from mine’ but it amounts to the same thing. I have fairly set opinions on most things, and absolutely no position on many others – either through lack of knowledge or complete apathy. I’m always willing to question and realign my position though, and I think that’s why I enjoy a bit of friendly discussion now and again.

However there is one type of person who I don’t ever bother with, the type who preach. The type who bully and shout and cajole others using peer pressure. The type who expect you to agree and when you don’t you are demonised and outcast. You know the type, you’ve all come across them, they exist in every walk of life.

Give me a reasoned argument and I may even agree that white is black and down is up, but always, ALWAYS remember that everything is a shade of grey.

Ohh and in other news, I’m still swithering over whether to watch Ms. Burchill ‘defend the chavs’ tonight on Sky One. Part of me knows it’ll be a one way diatribe and I’ll disagree, the other part of me is curious to see what arguments are put forward.

There is also a small part that hates it when I watch this kind of “car crash TV” but knows that I’ll watch it anyway.

bookmark_borderIT WORKS!!!

FINALLY.

Many many MANY thanks to Adrian and Jann for their sage advice and time.

I tried Jann’s advice first – as it was the simplest, namely adding <br style="clear: both;" /> right before the closing DIV tag. Whaddya know, it worked straight away. I’m not sure which I’m more relieved about, the fact it now works in IE AND Firefox (other browsers and versions still to be checked), or that it wasn’t anything I’d coded but a ‘gotcha’ with the Mozilla based browsers. Seemingly it’s “one of those things”, meaning it’s one of those things you learn once and never ever forget!

Now this does mean that my beloved Firefox browser is flawed slightly but it’s still a safer browser than IE – 12.5 million downloads can’t lie! (yes, I know that statistics ALWAYS lie but that’s not my point).

So, without further ado you can ALL have a gander at the 2005 version of this site. Comments welcomed and bear in mind it’s not completely finished yet.

UPDATE: Apologies to Shelagh, I posted this late last night (early this morning) and didn’t spot the code snippet wasn’t showing.

I AM NOT A CORRIDOR

Cos that’s just annoying, ain’t it? When it’s ALWAYS you that people are pushing past.

bookmark_borderMispelled

You know those words you can’t type properly, the ones you ALWAYS mis-spell. I have a couple, surprise not surpise, policy not policay, and business not bsiness (I’m sure I’ve many many more… ohh there’s another one – many not mahy).

Anyway, I’m currently writing a manual dealing with bsiness business policay policy objects.

It’s doing my head in!

bookmark_borderNot this but that

I had thought of 23 different things to post here by 8.30am this morning. I’ve forgotten each one. Instead I’ll give you a transcript (a small snippet) of a discussion I’ve just had on IM (the names have been changed to protect the innocent – I’ve ALWAYS wanted to say that… hmmmm what ever happened to M.A.R.R.S.??):

Donalda Bint: Am learning to drive, learning the drums and am trying to treach myself turkish
Gordon: tell me, how do you play the drums AND steer at the same time?
turkish drum driving is a sought after skill
LOL
so why Turkish?
whim is a terrible thing
blown by the winds of whim
in the direction of turkey
whim. not only a great word but something everyone should give into from time to time
it is a fine word – especially with a scottish accent, because we pronounce it “whim” whereas here in england they pronounce it “wim”. And that is more German film maker than innermost arbitariness
ahhh but “wim” is apt though, given mr.wenders propensities to the more fanciful artefacts of life
(I wish I knew what I meant there)
true, but I bet he pronounces it “whim”
lol
the “wh” gives in a whimsical and “will o’ the wisp” like feeling
very rare linguistic sound the “wh” apparently
really?
doing any whimming yourself?
see when you say it like that it just sounds dirty
yeah, got told that by a linguistic tutor – because it is basically breathing more than sound
heh heh heh
yes, but wimming sounds worse
depends on your accent…. u wimmin are always up to something…
turkish drum driving for example

We go on to discuss vowel karma and the Scottish approach to it (any one will do), and using colours as a filing system for people (including “drab”, “bowfin’ peach” and “dreary orange”).

Life? Who needs one of those?

bookmark_borderSurvived

Well a second game of 5-a-side has been survived. With no cramps, just a bit of a niggle from Tuesday but I can live with that.

Firstly, thanks to all for your suggestions, I was aware of most of them but the potassium and calcium ones were new. Anyway, I had a packet of salt and vinegar crisps mid-afternoon, drank plenty of water and had a banana about an hour before we played. So.. emm.. that means that one or all of those solutions worked for me. Ohh and before anyone asks, I ALWAYS stretch before and after, I learnt that one years ago.

If you also get cramp, you might find the following links useful, particularly the first one:

1. MUSCLE CRAMPS: Do they cramp your style?
Discusses several of the theories and suggests experimenting with them all to find a solution.
2. Hydration – including how you can tell if you are hydrated
Plumbing (pun intended!) new depths now, pee analysis?
3. Night Cramps
I’m including this because I’ve had it three times now, the first was when I was… 14?… the most recent occured when my foot and lower leg were in plaster. Trying stretching out a cramp with a cast on!

This has been a public health post, brought to you courtesy of zed, Dad, Pootlecat, Dragon, Ann Marie, Donalda (the latter two really should get a blog… come on gal’s it’s dead easy to setup, and you’d be brilliant!)
