Bye bye bikes!

I have, technically, four bikes.

My wife has, technically, four bikes.

I say technically because I only use two of them, and she only uses one, although one of her other two is being kept for the future.

We do not use all of these bikes.

My bikes:

• A Triban road bike – my trusty steed!
• A Trek mountain bike – brand new.
• A Specialized Hybrid —bought in 2012— that is now costing me more to repair than it is worth, time to say bye bye.
• A Carrera road bike – bought secondhand as a cheap bike for my old turbo trainer. I’ve since bought a Zwift Ride system I no longer need a bike for that purpose, so it can go too.

My wife’s bikes are:

• A Riverside touring bike – perfect for chasing Jack around.
• A Trek Specialized mountain bike – family inherited as they are all similar heights, they’ve all used it at one point or another.
• A Cervelo TT bike – Becca bought this not long before Jack was born with dreams of completing a Triathlon (a dream she will no doubt smash at a later date, as is her way), it’s a wonderful fast bike but isn’t going to get any use any time soon, so it’s time for it go.
• A Trek road bike – at least the frame is, it’s been cobbled together over the years but it’s been gathering dust for a few years now so it’s time to pass it on.

So today I dropped off the latter two of my bikes, and the latter of Becca’s, at Bike for Good in Glasgow, a charity who refurbish donated bikes, teach people to ride and maintain them, and make cycling accessible to everyone in Glasgow, regardless of income, background or experience.

The Cervelo TT bike we will sell as whilst it’s an older model, it’s still a very good, very fast, bike.

That will leave us with two bikes each, and while Jack only has one bike just now, I can already see the future where he has two bikes as well as we will need options for both trails and hills, as well as longer road rides in the future.

It also means we now have more space in the garage which is slowly, ohhh so slowly, getting organised. It’s only been almost 4 years.
