ALWAYS Wear a helmet

Wear a helmet, says Bino

Seconded!

Before I met her, my wife came off her mountain bike whilst and even WITH a helmet on was in hospital for a few days and now has a metal plate in her head, and no memory of the incident at all.

Edited: Apparently she does not have a metal plate in her head, I’ve no idea why I thought that either.

I’ve always always worn a helmet, I don’t differentiate between ride types.

As Bino also states:

While we’re a country with a strong cycling culture (behind the Netherlands & Denmark) a helmet is not mandatory. The focus is rather on safe infrastructure and traffic education rather than mandatory helmet laws.

Which is all well and good but a safe infrastructure and better traffic education only reduce the risk, they can’t eliminate it.

I do so wish that wearing a helmet was mandatory, it is such a simple thing to do to protect a very vital part of your body.

Why WOULDN’T you wear a helmet? Genuinely always been baffled as most of the time, aside from the aforementioned weak arguments, it seems to boil down to inconvience.

What price brain damage? Or worse.

So yes, we always wear helmets, and our son is so well drilled in wearing his helmet he will —quite loudly which I secretly love— point out that “they aren’t wearing helmets Daddy!” whenever we cycle past someone sans helmet.

You only have one life. Just put a helmet on!

/rant over.
