Jack had his Nursery Graduation on Friday, cape, tasseled mortarboard and all. I still feel a bit emotional about it, a milestone and all that. He is still very much not into participation and performing though, which is a-ok because neither is his Dad!
Scotland vs Morocco was excruciating to watch. At least we showed some attack intent, even if the result didn’t go our way. A draw with Brazil? I don’t see it. It’d have to be a 0-0. But then, stranger things have happened.
Ditched T’ai Chi. On reflection the first session was too long, and we didn’t do all that much. A lot of standing around and being talked at. May look for something similar locally though as I enjoyed the principle of it.
Had my nieces over on Saturday for a few hours. Daisy is similar ages to Jack (she’s started school), Lucy is already heading for teenagedom (what!), but we don’t see them often so it was nice just to hang out and play with them. Makes me sad their Mum isn’t around anymore though but both girls are holding up well. The weather helped as the sunshine meant they were out in the garden most of the afternoon.
Father’s Day today, and my wonderful son helped me rip out a part of the garden and start building a rockery. Still got to get some plants in it but the foundations are there. When we weren’t building, we played with in the garden. Bliss.
Couch to 5KM anyone? There is a local Parkrun that is handy for me, but Becca has always worked a Saturday morning (hospitality hours!). However, she starts a new job as a learning assistant at a local primary school soon, which means the weekends will be open and I could (with some training!) finally do a Parkrun!
Alas Vera, our motorhome, failed her MOT and needs new rear brake discs and pads. She’s booked in for Tuesday.
📚 Books
The Whalebone Theatre by Joanna Quinn – a sprawling story that seems to meander but builds the characters so deeply that, whilst I’ve still got some chapters left, I already know I will be sad to say goodbye to them.
This is it – annie’s blog — “What matters most is how well you walk through the fire, and what we didn’t realize is that it’s all fire, all the time, and how we walk through it is how we live, how we keep living, because love is a fire, love is as strong as death which means sometimes, a lot of times, we live through things that seem likely to kill us.”
No more RSS :: Syntax at Amima — Been toying with recreating my old ‘Start’ pages (HTML driven static lists of bookmarks), as I too am falling into the ‘Mark all as read’ camp a little too often.
Early Web Links — Glorious old school web directory, including animated background and under construction banner. Love it.
One Foot Tsunami: Thirsty Scots — Sounds like a lot? Depends, was it pints or glasses, small bottles? The tailgate stat of 14 beers per person for an entire day sounds feasible too, presuming 330ml bottles (max)… or am I just too Scottish? 😉
Weighing in on “Man or Bear” – BIKEPACKING.com — “…when men are socialized to identify their humanness as masculinity and to associate masculinity with power, we get some real problems. These are the problems of patriarchy. “
📺 Media
Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed – was put on as ‘something to watch’ but by the end of the first episode, which managed to suck me into thinking it was gonna be a very ‘trope’ but then wasn’t, was fab.
Star City – Loving it. Love this entire universe when it’s focussed like this (For All Mankind should’ve stopped already I think).
I have the benefit of a son who is really into music who saw Kneecap quite a few years back at Trnsmt on the small stage and he got me into them. I returned the favour by taking him to see one of my favourite 90s bands Sugar at the Barrowlands the other week. Good music across the age divide.
