I love Louis Armstrong but I fear this new version of WordPress may be the death knell for me and, given I’ve been using WordPress since 2004 (version 1.2), I guess I can say it’s been a good run.
I have pondered moving away from WordPress a few times now, the bloat makes the dashboard feel slow, I’m far too reliant on plugins (I’m not THAT bad a coder, just lazy!), and it feels very much like a product that is showing its age, with feature built on feature, leaving an odd jumble of ways to update things (wanna add to the CSS, you can do that in two places, maybe three, all to the same end).
I’m not all that close to WordPress development though, I’ve used it for a few sites over the years but not done anything in real anger —I don’t include my fudging attempts to create a new design here— for a long time so it might be I need to see how 7.0 sits.
But the addition of AI feels like a decision Dr. Ian Malcolm may have a good quote for so I’m gonna hold off moving to the new version and see how it goes.
In the meantime, I’ll be researching alternative platforms, just in case.
Thanks to Kevin for posting about this or I’d have missed it, and I wonder what Rhys will make of this!
