Week 12

🤷‍♂️ Life

  • LONDON BABY! Jack’s first time on a plane, and a few days in London being a tourist. I’ve not been down for about 10 years but it’s the same big, loud, busy, rude, place that part of me loves, and part of me loathes.
  • We visited the PIXAR exhibition on Friday, which was so much fun even for Mummy and Daddy, and we met lots of characters and sets from the movies. Then we headed to the Sea Life Centre because Jack loves the small local one so this one kinda blew his mind! Took us 5 minutes to get past the opening corridor (which has a glass floor above a tank with some sharks and big fish in it). AND then after all that we went on a boat to get back to our hotel that evening! What a day!
  • Saturday we headed to Kensington for the Natural History Museum and Science Centre which was good but so so busy, so we saw the T-Rex, and the Blue Whale and then tapped out. The sun was shining so we ended up in Hyde Park for some time to play (after ice cream of course). I do have to wonder why, which so much space available, the ONLY kids play area was tiny?!
  • We flew home today and safe to say we have an EXHAUSTED but very happy boy, and two very proud parents. He handled everything so well.
  • And that’s been the highlight of the week, a few days away with my best friends who just so happen to be my wife and my son.

📚 Read

  • Beloved by Toni Morrison – the language is making me slow down to enjoy it, it’s just so well written. I always get this way with character driven stories (see Elizabeth Strout recs recently), and it’s nice to get fully absorbed into a novel.

📰 Considered

  • Loving-kindness – A short but timely read before we headed to London, where the continuing rudeness and unashamed behaviour of some always baffles me. Maybe they aren’t ALL assholes?
  • The Brand Age – A long piece but well worth a read if you are pondering the larger effects of design versus brand, or is it vice versa?
  • Freedom of focus – Seth has written thought provoking posts for years, this one feels (as they most do) pertinent and timely.
  • Defining color – where do the words for colours come from?

📺 Watched

Not had much time to sit and watch (I like to single task when watching TV/Movies).

  • Still re-watching Schitt’s Creek.
  • Him & Her – forgot how good this was in that simple, very British, way.

🎧 Listened

  • A lot of BBC 6Music through the day.

🩻 Health

  • Gym: Starting to increase the weights.
  • Current Weight 112.2 – barely down on last week. My eating habits need to improve! (London trip has NOT helped).
  • Avg. Sleep: 7hrs 53mins (up 33mins, mostly because I set my phone to sleep mode on Friday night at 8:30pm and was actually asleep before 9pm).

👨‍💻 Tech

  • Printers – I have a perfectly ok Canon something or other, but it’s just too much faff. I need one that connects in an instant – no matter how long it’s been un-used! There must be a market for this kind of ‘seldom usage’ printer. Right?

🗓️ Next Week

  • Lots of exercise to counter the eating habits of our little break in London (hotel buffet, then eating out the rest of the time). And on Thursday I’ll drive up to Perth and spend the night in Vera, ahead of a day at the office in Blairgowrie.
