Dr. Who

I’m not a big fan of this show. I probably should be something about it just never really rang true with me in the past.

When Mr. Ecclestone took on the role I watched the first of those and, mostly underwhelmed I didn’t bother watching many others. Then Mr. Tennant came along so I thought I’d give him a shot but, again, it just wasn’t working for me.

Regardless I tuned in last night to watch.. er… wossisname take his turn as the new Doctor and, you know what, I might just tune in again next week.

It might have been that the dialogue seemed sharper (“You’re Scottish, fry something”), it might have been that I prefer wossisname to Tennant, and yes I’m willing to admit that the cute red-headed might well have swayed me (although, seriously, the kissogram outfit, was that really necessary?), but I really enjoyed the show.

So, as well as everything else going on in my life at the moment, I also have to contend with being a .. Who-ite? What do you call yourselves? But hey, it could be worse, I could be watching Caprica, ugh!

  1. Yeah, I too thought the dialogue was way better.

Good to see an English actor back in the role as well 😛

  2. I think they’re called Whovians. I too saw it, mainly cos I couldn’t be bothered to change channel, and I haven’t seen it since Tom Baker was the Doctor! I won’t go out of my way to see it again but if it’s on I’ll give it a watch.

  3. I think my bias in favour of Tennant is well noted on the web – can’t help it, it’s a Scottish actor thing I have – so I can’t help but feel the pinch of regret that he didn’t get to have this dose of writing from the Moff. But last night was great and barring a few negative grumblers, the general consensus amongst both fans and more casual viewers was that it was a triumphant return.

There’s some use of Whovian as a collective term (mostly by Americans), but I wouldn’t if I were you. Weirdly, I had quite some fun yesterday reading a DW forum that discussed viewers as ‘we’ and ‘not-we’ (distinguishing ‘avid nerds with box-sets and more knowledge than will be deemed reasonable by the general populace’ from those ‘watching what is popular on TV on a Saturday night, with possibly some family in tow, who may or may not have only been watching for Tennant-drooling’).

Anyway, I’m mostly just glad you enjoyed this week’s show.

  4. The new Doctor will be on Canadian television on Saturday and I am very excited.

I’m also very excited to see you here – why did I think you had quit your blog? I deleted you from my reader, so surely I didn’t make it up. Did you only last a week before you came back?
