And stretch…

Chatting to one of the instructors at the gym last night, I mentioned that I had thought about signing up for a Yoga class as I really need to improve my flexibility.

He advised me not to until I’d reached a reasonable level on my own, and at that he turned his attentions to the young blonde girl that had just walked on. Can’t really blame him for that but it did leave me wondering.

What is a “reasonable level”?

I’ll ask for more information when I’m next at the gym, but for now I think I’m gonna go with the Yoga section/exercises available in Wii Fit Plus.

Spending as much time as I do sitting at a desk I’m starting to feel my age, not only in my lack of flexibility but my eye-sight. I do have glasses, but they are for distance, or at least they were the last time I got my eyes checked, some 6 years ago? 7?

Time and tide and all that I guess. I don’t mind getting older at all, I’m just learning how to adapt my lifestyle to cope. One thing I definitely can’t do anymore is go drinking two nights in a row.

But I can always make exceptions, say, on the 8th and 9th of March…

  1. re the drinking thing, i totally get that too!
as for yoga, i definitly don’t think you need to have any level of fitness to do it, anyone can do it! you work to your own ability and only go as far as you can go in the positions. most positions have different levels that you can take them to. and its the sort of thing that you start to notice a difference within a few weeks of going (well i do). its also great to clear your mind – i find doing yoga one of the few times my mind is actually at rest.
(i’m not sure what you’ve written in your tweet as it was set to private, so you may already have started yoga and made up your own opinion).

  2. There is quite a lot of balance involved in Yoga and some positions are harder than others as gillian says at different levels, your knee might give you problems with some of them though. Do some on the wii fit to get feel for it, it’s great for calming the mind and forgetting everything for an hour or so. That’s why mum likes her Tai Chi!

  3. It sounds weird, but if you’re at home, you might try working while standing instead of sitting, at least once in a while. It works for me.

  4. On the working whilst standing thing I’d agree wholeheartedly – I try to do this for at least half of my day and it’s made a world of difference.

    How’s the yoga going G?
