Not a bad weekend, Saturday morning was spent pottering around the house, Saturday afternoon and evening was spent with the in-laws and a fantastic curry*. Sunday was a bit of a drag though.

We had planned to meet Louise’s Granda for lunch and then drive from there through to Dumbarton. Unfortunately, the in-laws car wouldn’t start (they’d stayed the night) so we had to drive all the way back to our house, get their car started and lost an hour and a half. That, coupled with roadworks on the way through to Dumbarton cutting the motorway down to two lanes AND THEN being stuck behind two “wide load” lorries doing 20mph for most of the way, kind of put the kibosh on Sunday.

Still we had a great barbeque at my parents, I did a couple of jobs for him (that he’s not allowed to do, he’s being really good with this kind of thing), and when we got home I plonked myself on the sofa with a beer and the football.

* If you are ever in the Hamilton area, you MUST try the Bombay Cottage. Sure the diet went to hell for one night but it’s well worth it!

In the midst of making up a CD and I’m stuck. The theme is “summer driving” and I’m looking for good bright pop tracks. For example the first track is going to be “The Pop Singer’s Fear of the Pollen Count” by the Divine Comedy, and the B-52s “Love Shack” will feature as well. Old or new I’m not bothered, don’t want anything too obscure though.

So, suggestions please (and quite possibly a free CD for one of you as well).

Before the blog I had a website, or home page as they were known. It featured links to other sites I enjoyed, some sample code I’d written up and a few different design ideas featuring all the new fangled stuff like coloured text, frames and tables.

That site was first revealed on the internet 7 years ago today, it took me almost another year to realise that some content was needed (I’d link to the “before blog” category but can’t get it to display ALL of the posts…).

It’s a bit scary to think how far things have come in that time, with a large chunk of it documented here. What an odd little hobby this is, but there must be something to it… seven years!

Well it seems like my mate William has finally decided to do the decent thing and marry his lovely lady Fran. It was all done on the quiet so the first I heard was when he phoned me from Dundee this evening and asked if I’d heard the news.

We’re both so happy for you guys, and we’re REALLY looking forward to the reception!

Mind you, there are more important matters to be dealt with first, when’s the stag night!

Despite only have a few questions, it does seem to be accurate (check out what it made of Blue Witch, sounds spot on to me). Mind you, maybe I’d be better leaving that for YOU to judge…

Gosh I was busy last night, busy playing old PlayStation games that is as I picked up an original PlayStation last night all thanks to Freecycle and David in Yoker. Now I know you can play PS1 games on a PS2 system but where’s the retro fun in that?! Unfortunately I’m not sure if I have any old PS1 games left, I was sure I kept the best multi-player racing game ever – Micro Machines – and a couple of the better releases (Tekken, ISS Pro Evo etc etc) but I think a trip up into the loft is required to confirm.

I do like the idea behind Freecycle – “When you want to find a new home for something — whether it’s a chair, a fax machine, piano, or an old door — you simply send an e-mail offering it to members of your Freecycle group.” – and have to admit that there is something to be said for getting things for free. Of course you have to buy (pun intendeed) into the spirit of things and know that offering items is as good taking them, and yes I’ll admit that I’ve not yet offered anything (there is a futon in our loft that might be first in the queue though!). However I’m surprised at some of the things on offer, considering how little effort it is to “eBay” something*, as I expected it to be the harder to move items, furniture and the like. A quick scan down the recent emails and there are books, plants, lamps, magazine collections all listed alongside an old Ford Granada and a “huge cardboard box” (I kid you not).

Anyway, it’s sites like these that keep the internet both interesting – receiving the emails is a veritable pot luck – and community driven. Why not see if there is a local group near you.
