Quick recap of Sunday.

Picked Louise up at 3.15am. Asleep by 4am. Up at 10am. Louise out all day doing ‘wedding stuff’ with Susan.

So I spent all day alternating between flicking through magazines, reading a book by this lady, watching Michael “winning CAN be boring” Schumacher in Japan (although if truth be told I had to check that he won the race as I gave up with about 10 laps to go), and watching a light drizzle outside.

All of which only made me want to have ANOTHER cup of dark milky coffee and a lightly warmed pancake drizzled with honey.

Productivity 0 Sofa Day 1

And continuing on a football theme, and whilst I hadn’t followed it during the week, curiosity got the better of me and we watched The Match tonight. Anyone else think Ally McCoist deserves a Scotland recall?

A little back story first. My parents are away on holiday over the weekend my birthday falls on. So I got my card and presents today. Which was very nice. First up I got a voucher for a massage (took me by surprise that one) which I’ll save for after a stressful week at work.

The second part of my birthday was a bit more practical, and proves that if you moan about something enough…

Yup, they bought me a new lawnmower. No more flymo for me! In fact I’m kinda hoping it stays dry tomorrow so I can finish cutting the grass – what a turn around!

They didn’t actually have it when we were through in Dumbarton today, but told me I would be getting one, although it might need to be ordered (apparently no-one buys lawnmowers in October.. odd that…). So that was fine, I was expecting it during the coming week at some point.

But no, my parents are nothing if not slightly mental, and decided to try a different store and then drive over here to deliver it (about an hour drive). Nuts they are (but in a very very good and very much appreciated way!).

So, YAY for cylinder lawnmowers, and far too generous, if slightly loopy, parents. I do luv ’em.

Mind you, boo for Norway beating us 1-0, but well done Ireland for the result in Paris. Unlucky Wales, just not good enough I’m afraid. Yes, I have to admit that England did look a class apart. Ho hum.

Now, read on for the Best Comment Ever left on a blog. It’s inspired, possibly by medication…

I’d hate for anyone to miss this, so I thought I’d repost the following recently received comment (from the post below this one). I’ll let you all make your own judgement:

“Gordon”, You are a mess. Your imagination – it never ends. I have a horrific sleep disorder these days. I am constantly thinking… it is as if my thoughts just can’t be stopped or calmed down – only by a sleep med – not cool. Your photos I love. I currently own a Canon ZR70 digital video camcorder and a Nikon Coolpix 3100. I so wish I had the kind of time that you have! Your various writings and characters (personalities) are somethin’ else. I love to read. Problem: it is becoming a rather large one… my fiance knows I read your “stuff”. Well, I use to share it with him – like talk of the daily news, ya know. He wants me to discontinue reading all your web writings. I thought about saving the best(s) of your work on a jump drive. Maybe I will publish it, and accredit it to your real name when you are no longer with us. Yeah, I’ll be able to publish it… I’ll be loaded with – $$$$$$$$’s. I am getting a much better understanding of you… not like a want to meet you – I don’t think so… oh no, not a plan at all!!! I am a fan though… nonetheless. Take it for what it’s worth. My fiance, a man with superb intelligence, well known, with a law degree (making a wonderful debater)… he hates you. He doesn’t want me to give one itty bitty bit of attention to any of your “stuff”. I think he is angry now. He really hates you.

Who’d a thought!

The weekend creeps into view. Slowly.

Tomorrow we’re off to Dumbarton to catch up with family; talk about next years holiday with sister-in-law, see if my Mum’s voice has returned to normal, give my sister a big hug*,and find out how my brother-in-law enjoyed New York.

Louise is out on Saturday night so I get the TV/DVD/PS2 to myself. What to watch, what to play (Pro Evo 4 anyone? Errr… yes of course it’s legal m’laud).

Sunday and… well no plans. I’ve got the grass to maim, and some weeding wouldn’t go amiss.

Ohh and there are some international football games going on over the weekend as well. Good luck to Scotland and Wales (only because I reckon we’ll both need it).

Have a good one y’all!

P.S. I’m STILL waiting on some decent suggestions for a TV unit.. awww crap, need to look for one of those at the weekend as well..

* Hassles with her degree course, she has 0.5 of a credit to get and has been accepted back to get it! Yay!

(One of the dangers of writing posts when you are zombie-tired is making mistakes. Lyle has pointed one out, and I’ve subtly corrected it… read on)

Been a bit of a funny day. I’ve romped through some work, in particular one document that has been giving me a real headache suddenly *CLICKED* into place, THEN I tidied up a little, and cut the grass.

Well that’s a lie. I didn’t cut ALL of the grass.

As you should know by now I have a hate/hate relationship with my grass and my lawnmower. Whoever said Flymos were great was lying. They are the spawn of Titchmarsh.

Now, the big selling point of the Flymo is that they provide “light and easy mowing on a cushion of air”. And what happens if the surface isn’t exactly as smooth as a bowling green? Well the air gets deflected to one side, simple. Ahh but what else is going on at the same time? That’s right, grass cuttings are whirling around, trying to make their way up into the collection basket. Except, if you divert the airflow, and then they can do nothing but follow it.

Usually this is straight into the border or out onto the pavement. So it’s not the cutting of the grass that I mind, it’s the tidying up AFTER cutting the grass the narks me. Typically I can cut the grass (two lawns at the front, one at the back, none are huge) in about 45mins or so. However when you add in the edging, the sweeping up, raking, brushing and so on, then it can take up to two and a half hours.

So, at 4pm today I stopped what I was working on, and headed out to cut the grass. It was the first time it hadn’t rained all day for about three weeks I think. Or so I thought.

Yup, that’s right, no sooner had I finished cutting the main front lawn than it started raining. I cursed several times then put the lawnmower away. But, as all I had done was CUT the grass I still had about an hour of clearing up to do. In the rain. Whilst all the neighbours came home from work, most making some smart remark or another about how “that’s dedication!” and “you can start on mine after that”.

Ohh how I laughed. Falsely of course as I stood there, slightly damp and gripping the rake just that little bit harder. Bloody comedians.

And now, having been up most of LAST night, I find myself still wide awake at 1.15am and rambling on about cutting the grass.

Note to self: Get a life.

Hey, isn’t it just GREAT when you can’t get to sleep until around 5am! I mean you get so much done without sleeping.

Just as well I took my laptop home last night, as there is no way I’d have made it into the office for my usual time this morning.

In other news, we are rapidly coming to the conclusion, as the final pieces of the fireplace are painted and varnished, that the TV unit we bought last year is too big. So I guess part of the weekend will be taken up searching for a new one. Funny how these jobs are always more expensive than originally planned.

I’ve already checked the IKEA site, but the smaller version of what we currently have is still too wide. We are looking for a unit that will hold a widescreen TV, Telewest box, DVD player, Video Recorder*, and PlayStation2. I don’t mind stacking them, but ideally the unit will only have one column, and a solid back to hide all the cables.

So, if anyone has any suggestions for something that meets that criteria please let me know!

* Spotted a Mico DVD+RW Recorder, potential replacement for video recorder, for only £180 in Sainsbury’s yesterday. Sorely tempting!
