bookmark_borderGet a life

Some of you may have noticed (Graybo alerted me)that a certain UK blog has ceased. The ‘source’ of the reason can easily be found.

Shame really, and it must’ve been bad to force Meg to take her site down. Not.so.soft was an early inspiration for me and probably one of the first UK blogs I read slavishly. I’m sure she’ll be back at some point and I hope the person who caused all this feels some sort of remorse, but I wouldn’t imagine they do.

So, lest I fall victim to something similar, let me just state a few things for the record:
1. This site does not document every facet of my life nor capture each trait of my character. You will NOT know or understand me from reading this site.
2. I have a right to my own opinion, as you are yours. This is MY space for voicing my opinion. The comment system was installed to gather feedback and encourage discussion where warranted. I WILL delete your comments if you are being an arse. And yes I have final ruling on whether you are being an arse or not.
3. This site is not my life. I would miss it if I had to pull it down, and I would if needs must.
4. Emmmm… hmmmmm…. ohh just grow up for chrissakes!

Sorry I was going to think this out a bit more but I’m still a bit miffed about hearing about Meg’s site and the reasoning behind it.

Is it just me or do some people just need a slap?

bookmark_borderSetting the standard

So, who’s got a summer holiday booked? We’ll probably make it out to the in-laws in the south of Spain but I don’t see the budget stretching much further to be honest.

Anyway, for all you lot off to sunnier climes (or colder climes, whatever tickles your fancy) be aware that you can’t just chuck a few photo’s up and say “Weather’s here, wish you were lovely”.

Tha diamond geezer bloke has raised the bar (again). If you haven’t caught his reports from San Francisco then I suggest you grab a coffee and a hot-cross bun and head over there.

It all reminds me of my trip to San Francisco – Pleasanton for the main part but a day in the city was more than enough to plant the bug that is making me itch to return. I think the weather in Pleasanton maybe had something to do with it, but I could be wrong… ahhhh yes, fond memories indeed.

bookmark_borderCar searching

Some useful sites for UK car owners:
Auto Express – search for a review, add to your ‘showroom’ and compare specs easily.
Parkers – THE pricing guide for the car industry (as used by Auto Express).
Car Source – one stop shop for second hand car buys.

and finally…

Motorpoint – I’m sure this is a great site but it bugs me for some reason. Can you guess why? (Hint: visit the site before trying to answer… smartarse…)

bookmark_borderWhat are you doing?

I’ll be working tomorrow, trudging to work whilst the majority of the country … don’t. I hope you all have something planned or you will be making a mockery of the fact that I’m in work and you’re not. It’s your duty to do something!

Sigh.

I’m distracting myself at the moment, NBA is on in the background, but I should really be working on Scottish Blogs. Progress has been zero as I’m increasingly struggling with PHP and I’m considering buying an off-the-shelf ‘member site’ package and customising that to help out. Mind you it’s the last thing I want to spend any money on as it’s, essentially, a hobby site. I’ve kind of lost the excitment of doing it to be honest, but I’ll keep pegging away.

One thing I DO want to spend money on is a new car. We still owe a few thousand on the current car, but I reckon that the trade-in would offset that. We’ll be getting something smaller as we don’t travel far anymore and the car’s main use is getting Louise to work, a 15 minute journey at most. Not sure what though. We’ve had Renault’s for a few years, but it may be time for a change.

So, what to buy? I fancy the new Mini but it’s a bit pricey when new, not mad keen on the Clio, the new Fiesta might be an option… not sure to be honest.

Ideally I’d like something top of the range but that’s not gonna happen – one of our reasons for changing is to try and save a little money. Guess I need to pick up a copy of Auto Express this week.

bookmark_borderDamn fool

Just doing a spot of surfing before I head off to kill some brain cells watching TV when I notice Peter mention that he’d been add to the UK Showcase on Kinja (I’m somewhat amazed that I am too…)

I clicked the link and spotted two flaws.
1. You can’t easily tell all the sites that are in a Kinja digest.
2. You can’t see who the digest belongs to – well you can but there is no link to the digest owner’s site.

But of course this is a BETA and has no doubt been considered.
