Well whatever they did to the technical gubbins seems to have done the trick as the service is now happily chugging along. Of course there is still a natural sway towards.. well.. “demographical music choices” but as more people starting using this it should even out. Right?

Current Top 10:

1. non-mover: Modest Mouse – Float On
2. non-mover: Franz Ferdinand – Take Me Out
3. non-mover: The Postal Service – Such Great Heights
4. non-mover: Evanescence – My Immortal
5. non-mover: Coldplay – Clocks
6. up 2: Radiohead – Karma Police
7. down 2: Coldplay – The Scientist
8. up 3: D12 – My Band
9. up 7: The White Stripes – Seven Nation Army
10. up 27: Maroon 5 – This Love

Now obviously this kind of system is open to some abuse. For example if I were to go away on holiday for a week and leave on track on continuous repeat, I’m guessing that track would be a shoo in for a high placing. Again as more people sign up the chances of this happening are lowered.

Note: This is bad, right? Grasping for content in such an obviously needy way. I really just shouldn’t post anything. But then you might leave and never come back. And I quite like seeing that little number next to the Comments link. *sigh* what a sad life I lead.

Dick.

I have no reason why but it seems to have crept into my vocabulary as my current “swearword du jour” (more like swearword du semaine mind you).

That is all.

Actually, it’s not. Got some bad news from a friend last night. Can’t say too much but it has dredged up memories of a time I’d rather forget. Such is life I guess, what hurts us makes us stronger, right?

Because I can’t find it anywhere else on the internetweb, here is the opening text from Fats Gonder’s introduction for James Brown (Live at the Apollo in ’62).

“So now ladies and gentlemen it’s star time, are you ready for star time?!

Thank you and thank you very kindly, it is indeed a great pleasure to present to you at this particular time national and internationally known as the hardest working man in showbusinesses, here to sing I Go Crazy!… Try Me!… You’ve Got The Power!… Think!… If You Want Me!… I Don’t Mind!… Bewildered!… million dollar seller Lost Someone!… the very latest release Night Train! Let’s everybody shout and shimmy! Mr. Dynamite, the amazing Mr. Please Please himself… the star of the show, James Brown and the Famous Flames!!”

All in the name of public service.

bookmark_borderI'm in love

She’s a little bit kooky, her mood swings are unpredictable, and her choice of hair colours is questionable. I’m in love with Clementine Kruczynski.

Ohhh sure, it won’t last. It’s a temporary thing, the thrill of the unexpected trailing in the wake of her impulsiveness but hey, what a ride it would be.

For those who don’t have an earthly what I’m wittering on about, the wonderful, vivacious Clementine Kruczynski is Kate Winslet’s character in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Odd film, but the longer it ran the more I started to enjoy it, and Jim Carrey is very good at this kind of everyman role.

A nice message of enduring love, well scripted, well acted, well shot. If you liked Lost in Translation you’ll like this. If you didn’t like Lost in Translation – go see Van Helsing.

Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind

Jim Carrey plays it straight. Every review said so but this film is much more than that. For a start Kate Winslet is absolutely superb, banishing (finally!) Titanic from my mind. The story itself is merely a back drop to allow the writers to place the characters in weird and wonderful places, both real and in the mind. Visually striking – switching from a dark feel in the main apartment the characters share, to light and distant as they head off to the beach – it’s well directed, and well placed. Yes it’s quirky, and not to everyone’s taste, but if you liked Lost in Translation I’d venture you’ll enjoy this too.

bookmark_borderThis evening I will mostly be…

Watching Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

I’m a big fan of Carrey in serious roles, and I’m looking forward to this. I’ve already been given a ‘tip’ (watch the colour of her hair) and it’ll be good to see Kirsten Dunst actually acting, instead of standing about in wet t-shirt as she did in Spiderman. Van Helsing is also on the list as is The Passion of the Christ (still).

Secret Window is not on my list.

Louise went to see it last night and was less than impressed. Some ladies might like to know that Johnny Depp was cute, but the storyline wasn’t up to much. In her own words it was one of those movies where “you KNEW there was a twist coming and they didn’t really hide it”.
