Pondering

Not sure why I’m sitting here, force of habit I guess. Need to wash the car, grab a shower and head off to see some friends. That’s not in order of priority (if it was then it would be a different list…). Tweaking design, writing more stuff, and generally keeping up with things. Fire-fighting. It would be nice to be able to control my own deadlines at the moment…

Red light

Light stopped in its tracks. Whoa… heavy stuff, eerrr light stuff? Not quite sure about future implications, but it certainly makes interesting reading..imagine someone turning on a torch and you can walk in front of the beam as it moves forward… freaky.

Bulger

Jon Venables and Robert Thompson (now both aged 18) killed James Bulger (who was 2) in February 1993 Yesterday (08.01.01) they were granted a secret identity Should they have been granted the right to anonymity? That is not for me to decide, greater minds than mine have discussed the matter. But what now for the boys? should I say men? I don’t know, and don’t want to know, what went through their minds. I remember the case, but didn’t follow it, confused about the motives and actions of two young boys. Now they have aged, what goes through their minds? I would imagine, as it is all I can do, that their sentence will be served in a much harsher …

Changes

e4 – new Friends and ER, Sopranos and Ally McBeal (the best of US tv?). However visiting the site spawns a new window (IE4 or higher only supported) and prompts you to download Flash 5… well s’pos I’d better at some point… Do I want to restart the computer for the changes to take effect? !!! Maybe I’m being over critical, but is this not a tad… invasive.. a quick browse on the web before bed turns into a PC restarting nightmare… Ohh meant to say – spot the difference?

Possibilities

Ever get one of those elongated days, where you seem to get loads done, attend all the meetings you should, and actually score some stuff off your Task list? Know what I mean? Good – how the hell do you do it!! Interesting email from a friend, possible project, could be fun/taxing/challenging/exciting and quite high profile.

Virtuous

This is getting ridiculous. I’ve written in here already about my the Internet’s effect on shortening attention spans and how quickly news seems to move on these days. I give it.. ohhh…. until Sunday before we’ve forgotten about this. Patience is a virtue after all.

Penny drops

Think I have just realized why someone said “these web developers have funny names” (see yesterdays posting). Mind you it could have been a huge concidence, in fact it probably was…

Named

So, what is the power of the Zeldman? Well it prompted Katerina to write and send a very lovely email. More power to this weird and wonderful community. Dot-coms failing? So what? This is the real power of the internet, connectivity, shortening of distances, lessening of prejudices, long may it continue (and as Blogger have just got two new servers in, it seems like it will!). I’m also considering changing my name by deed poll – Zeldman, Kottke, LanceLog… McLean.org? Gordon.com? Not very catchy.

Zeldman'd

The man, the iconoclast (OK maybe I should look up the real meaning in a dictionary but you get my point) tips his hat my way. It is an strange experience, seeing a mail in your inbox from ‘Jeffrey Zeldman’. Almost like someone playing a bad joke on you. I’m sure he’s a down to earth guy (although his pic scares the hebejebies out of me… yeah I should check that in the dictionary as well), so thanks for the hat-tip Zeldman. Off to take a screenshot of this auspicious moment. 8:50 a.m.: Iconoclast – correct word. Hebejebies – not in my dictionary, note to self: what is the point in a dictionary that doesn’t have hebejebies in it?!
