It’s Louise’s birthday next week, as always I’ve got a list of things to get her (I keep track of things she mentions throughout the year so I’m not left scratching my head when her birthday comes around) but not sure if I’m going to get her anything.

We’ve been chatting about our plans for the house, checking our finances – our mortgage being the biggest concern as the fixed rate ends soon so we’ll need to switch I think – and all the usual planning we do every now and then to see how we are doing. Changing the car for something smaller (read cheaper) was the first stage, and we are slowly beginning to cut back on things, we’ve both lowered our mobile tariffs (we are too dependant on them to ditch them altogether although it has been considered), the cable TV package has been halfed, and I’m trying to make lunches to take into work rather than spending £2-3 a day on lunch.

Ideally we’d like a holiday this year but I don’t see it happening, unless of course I manage to get a little extra cash from a wee side job… but we’ll see. The main reason for all the gardening over the weekend, and continuing into the week, is to allow us to be able to sit and enjoy our garden/weekend in the coming weeks, rather than having it filled with ‘chores’. We are both working harder than ever and we need that cut off I think.

So, for the most part, things are pretty stagnant really. Minding the pennies, trying to save some money with an eye on upcoming events (a wedding in November for example), and generally having a quiet life.

In other words: not a lot to report here guv’nor.

Spent most of last night listening to the dulcet tones of my dear wife snorting and snoring and snuffling. Her sore throat has migrated to her head, and she’s sneezing and sniffing like a good ‘un.

And I think she’s passed it to me.

So what else is going on? The rise of the UKIP is a worry, anything that has Kilroy-Silk attached is NOT a good thing people! (preaching to the converted here though, aren’t I). The news that the rail network might be re-nationalised is a worry as, despite the cancelled train this morning, it’s been pretty good using the train to get to work. Re-nationalisation will mean scrapping routes, raising fares and generally making the car look like a much better option than it should be; there was a semi-related news item last week from California I think, where a group was campaigning for a bigger raise to the oil prices to make people use their cars less, might work? Ohhh and of course there is the news that some English fans decided that losing to France was justification enough to start fighting. Quelle surprise?

Site news: If I can be bothered I’ll be changing things here tonight. It’ll be work in progress for a while, as I’ve only really settled the structure but you’ve got to start somewhere I guess…

UPDATE: No I couldn’t be bothered. Might change it tomorrow.

Well we can’t talk about the rugby, the Switzerland and Croatia game was, as Mark Lawrence said, “a great advert for cricket”, speaking of which the English cricket team even managed to snatch a victory from the jaws of defeat. Schumacher won again (yawn) and I’m completely knackered as I spent two hours playing football with my nephew.

I believe there is another game of footie on soon, and with that in mind, I’m off to put on my France top (no, seriously).

Ohhh and I should really talk about nettles, Dan and Armani etc etc but I can’t be bothered.

UPDATE: Well, I think a draw would have been a fair score, a tad unlucky I guess. Ach who am I kidding… twoooo one, twoooo one, twooo one, twoo one. Twooooo one, TWWooo one TTWWWOOOO ONE!!!!!!!

Cutting, weeding, pulling, spraying, hacking. Gardening is a chore, especially when your other half ain’t well and you are doing it on your own (half the fun is flinging worms at the missus).

However, after a quick shower I’ll settle down on the sofa, with a coke float methinks, for an evening of European football. All this bolstered by a scoreline of 36-3.

Ohh and I’m tweaking here again, you may notice some changes soon.

How’s your weekend so far?

Meet me on the other side
Meet me on the other side
I’ll see you on the other side
See you on the other side

Honey now if I’m honest
I still don’t know what love is
Another mirage folds into the haze of time recalled
And now the floodgates cannot hold
All my sorrow all my rage
A tear that falls on every page

Meet me on the other side
Meet me on the other side

Maybe I oughta mention
Was never my intention
To harm you or your kin
Are you so scared to look within
The ghosts are crawling on our skin
We may race and we may run
We’ll not undo what has been done
Or change the moment when it’s gone

I know it would be outrageous
To come on all courageous
And offer you my hand
To pull you up on to dry land
When all I got is sinking sand
The trick ain’t worth the time it buys
I’m sick of hearing my own lies
And love’s a raven when it flies

Honey now if I’m honest
I still don’t know what love is

Thank you David Gray.

Reformatting a 62 page document is no-one’s idea of fun. Thankfully I have “The Best Air Guitar Anthems in the World … ever (Vol. 459)” to keep me company.

Hey, it’s keeping me sane…
