Bank Holiday Weekend

Yesterday was a Bank Holiday. Whilst this is not a huge event in and of itself, it is worth noting as it was probably the first time I’ve not worked one for about 10 years.

After a day pottering at home on Saturday, we headed through to a friends house for a BBQ on Sunday. Not the greatest of days for cooking outdoors but it wasn’t TOO cold. A long afternoon turned into a late night, with news of a wedding taking centre stage. I’ll also be really REALLY good and not mention fake tan… sorry private joke.

We stayed with my parents on Saturday night and arose early to took take my parents to Perth for the day. Most of the day was spent wandering around shops and gardens, with several food related pitstops. Photos were taken, the weather did it’s best, and my Mum even managed to dribble chocolate sauce down her light blue jumper…

All in all a good day. I had visions of sitting in mile-long tailbacks for hours on end, but as we were away from most of the tourist traps we largely avoided such misery. Why DO people do it?

  1. Quite fancy one of those Hondas. have you got your muma coloured name yet?

  2. It’s still fab. Spent a couple of hours washing it, by hand, on Saturday. Applied Rain-X to side and rear windows, fitted fog light protectors, and it behaved wonderfully on Monday.

There is a nice stretch of road nicknamed the “Stirling Straights”, along which I got the chance to overtake some slower cars, the torque is quite astounding. 5th Gear (dropped down from 6th), foot down and it takes off like a bottle rocket!

Add in cruise control for the longer stretch up the motorway to Perth, then some noodling around the city and despite having spent about 4 hours in the car, I was fine, as were all 3 passengers.

A couple of new bits discovered too (seatbelt clips in the back) and a small annoyance (the electric windows can ‘fold up’ but don’t ‘fold down’ when you start the car.

  3. It was good of you ‘to took'(unquote!) the oldies out for the day and I must say the back seats are really comfy – perhaps the ‘fold down’ option is not there because you have air con?
FYI the red barked tree is Prunus (cherry) serrula and the yellow flowers by the stream are marsh marigolds. (I know you like to keep the educational content of your blog up to speed) – and just for the record – I did not dribble but lost control of the contents of my fork on its trajectory to my mouth because you had distracted me – and that’s the truth your honour!

  4. Having lived the majority of my life in a tourist resort, I still think, after 20 years here, that Bank Holidays are for staying at home away from the crowds.

Speaking as a mother, chocolate sauce control is one of our weak points, whether the dribble is from a fork or more droolingly from the lower lip.

  5. A Bank Holiday? Up here we have a Local Holiday (for local people) next Monday. It’s like a Bank Holiday but only Aberdeen has it… Have a look at the Shire Council website for the weirdness of local holidays.

Unfortunately, as my office is on the other end of a computer wire to English building sites, we don’t even get our local holiday…
