Beastly Beauty

Whilst not everyone’s cup of tea I have to admit I thoroughly enjoyed last night. It was intriguing to see how they would adapt the West End sized stage show for the relatively small King’s Theatre, but I have to say that bar some little glitches here and there, they pulled it off. Of course having seen the show before we knew what to expect but it was a different cast and a much different and lighter feel. The Beast was much more comically played, as was Gaston, but it suited the audience well as it was mainly comprised of kids. Vocally the songs become much more powerful than they are in the movie, with the Beasts character the most …

Moving

Both a rather good song by Supergrass and something in which Louise and I have a fair amount of experience. Our current abode, our third purchase (alongside five rentals) is the longest we’ve stayed in one place and yes my feet are getting itchy. There is something quite enjoyable about packing your belongings, taking the time to trim them down as much as possible – when packing we hold with the “this has never been used, get rid of it” principle and are prepared to be ruthless and unsentimental, something lacking in our current hoarding house with the big loft – actually seeing everything you’ve got, and reminiscing on where it came from, before stacking it all into boxes to …

Culture

Well I guess I should mention the plans for this evening. Meeting up with my sister in Glasgow, where we’ll grab a drink (probably) before hooking up with Louise. The three of us will head to dinner – which reminds me I must check 5pm.co.uk for some pre-theatre deals – and then we’ll head to the Kings Theatre to catch Beauty and the Beast. It’s the same show we caught a few years ago (cripes… is it six years? longer??) and it’s her favourite. It’s a birthday present from my parents and whilst it’s no Faust or Miss Saigon it’s still an excellent production. Weird thing is that I can’t find mention of our previous viewing of it on this …

Blip Brother

Ahh yes, feeling better already, and I didn’t even make it outside.. yet.. just heading out now. But before that some news that has had me worrying for… ohh .. minutes at least. Yes I’ll admit that my desire to whore my blog, and my need for validation made me nominate myself for this years Big Blogger. Well the voting is in and I’VE BEEN PICKED!!!! Naturally I don’t expect to win, the calibre of the other contestants is quite high, almost two inches I think, and anyway it’s not the taking part that counts it’s the winning in style. I have absolutely NO idea what to expect over the coming week(s). But consider yourselves forewarned. Now, where’s that nurses …

Monotony

Try as I might I’m currently trapped in an endless cycle. The same one many of you are. Work, home, dinner, sleep, breakfast, work… We holiday in at the beginning of next month, so the coming weekends will be spent saving money, so little respite there. My mood is, despite the sunny weather, on a downswing, but I’m going to remedy that with some gardening later – nothing like fresh air etc etc. For the meantime I’ll leave you with this: “Most modern calendars mar the sweet simplicity of our lives by reminding us that each day that passes is the anniversary of some perfectly uninteresting event” Smart bloke that Oscar Wilde.

She did it!

Just a quick note to say Congratulations to my sister-in-law Claire. She’s been studying hard all year and passed all of her exams to earn a place at University studying dietetics. To put it in a little perspective for the rest of you, she’s a single mum with four kids – she’ll hate me saying that, as she never EVER mentions it but them’s the facts. I’m dead chuffed. We’re both so happy for you, you worked hard Claire, roll on the holiday when we can REALLY celebrate!!

Whinge, Moan

Everywhere you go someone is complaining about something. It seems that a lot of people only EVER complain. Take any piece of nationally (internationally) reported good news and you’ll find twice as many people ready and willing to run it down. Well I, for one (and probably only for today) am sick of it. So, today’s challenge is to say something positive. Doesn’t have to be anything uplifting or spiritual, just positive. I’ll start, shall I? The government’s “pay as you go” driving scheme is a good thing. The positive impact it will have on the environment is a good thing. The Live 8 concert is a good thing no matter who performs at it. See, it’s easy. Now, your …

Calling All Gurus

CSS gurus that is. Have a gander at this page and then tell me why I can’t get the navigation (Home, Gallery, Links) to center align in that DIV?! To break it down a little, the DIV under the banner is TOPNAV, within that is an unordered list with an id of NAVLIST. I’ve tried applying a text-align: center; to the NAVLIST and to the TOPNAV div to no avail. Totally baffled. Maybe there’s an easier way to do it? Should I ditch the idea of using a list altogether? Ohh and Keith, mate, have a gander as well, it’s your site that’s causing me all these hassles!!! UPDATE: Sorted. 30 mins. That’s impressive. Of course if I’d actually applied …

A task for you

A certain special lady has a birthday soon, for once I’m stumped for ideas above the usual books, DVDs and smelly stuff. So, dear reader, over to you. You’ve got all weekend, and the best suggestion may just win a prize. It’ll have to be really good though. Some guidelines. 1. Stick around the £50 mark – less is better! 2. She has clothes and perfume and jewellery – she doesn’t need any more. 3. She likes nothing better than curling up on the sofa – so no bungie jump vouchers. There you go then, something to ponder over the weekend. Have a good one.

Habitual

It drives her nuts, and drives me nuts as well but I don’t know WHY I do it. I know why I pick my nails, it’s a mild form of self abuse etc etc but why oh why oh why do I bite my teeth together?? It’s completely unconscious, and happens at random. I’ll be, say, sitting watching TV and just start biting, clicking my teeth together. Anyone got any ideas? And, more importantly, how do I stop it! Note: Gum shields have been threatened already, I’d prefer to treat the cause rather than the symptoms. In other news, Desperate Housewives, no new series until NEXT YEAR!!! AARGH.
