1. Fedup with Blogger timing out on me. I need to switch the MiniBlog to WordPress. But how? Suggestions welcomed.

2. The more eagle eyed will have spotted a heading in the sidebar “Listening”. I’m still trying to get the plugin to work but eventually it will pull a list from audiscrobbler of the last 10 tracks I’ve listened to by me.

3. The even more eagle eyed will have noticed that the archive pages have a new “heatmap”. The brighter and larger the text the more posts there are. Looks a bit messy at the moment but I like the idea.

4. I’m aching to revert back to a cleaner, white based design. Thankfully I have more important things to do. Which reminds me, I should be doing them now! (File under: avoidance technique)

Have you read George Orwell : Why I Write? If so, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Why? Because I’ve got a draft post, that I’m hoping to publish soon, which discusses his ideas and how they may be applied to blogging.

Note: Post title changed as it was breaking the RSS feed (I think).

Lá Fhéile Pádraig

Forgot my glasses, not wearing anything green, so this is the best I can do to honour St.Patrick’s Day. Whether you are celebrating the religious aspects of today or just using it as an excuse to drink Guinness (Pionta Guinness, le do thoil), sláinte chugat!

Trivia: Despite originally having nothing to do with St. Patrick’s Day, the lobaircin (leprechaun to you and I) was popularised in 1959, when Walt Disney released a film called Darby O’Gill & the Little People.

bookmark_borderOhh go on then

Richard suggested I start the Scottish Blog Awards.

Shauny just said “blogmeet! blogmeeeeeeeeeeeeet!”

Richards idea has been floating around, between the two of us, for a while but would take more effort than I have the energy for at the moment.

A blogmeet isn’t so hard though. So bowing to public (Shauny) pressure I’ve started to organise another Scottish Blogmeet.

With a bit of luck THAT article might just have done me a favour as the Scottish Blogs site has added 24 new members in the last week alone.

Surely we can muster more than two people for the next one – that is if you don’t count the breakaway faction headed by Peter who claim a Blogmeet with three attendees. Hopefully this Blogmeet will finally end the feud* and bring both factions together in peace, harmony and Guinness.

* Just in case: I’m joking, we are a big happy family.

A nameless person (well he does have a name but I’m not disclosing it here, he has been popping up in the comments recently though) and I had an MSN chat about THAT article today.

Note: This is edited, mainly to make me look better …

¿Dónde están los banjos? says:
He reminds of a cave man looking at a glacier and saying
“Ug no like hard-cold water. Ug will push hard-cold water back to hills”

¿Dónde están los banjos? says:
You no likey bloggy?
You no ready bloggy then.
The badger faced, turd juggler.

Gordon says:
Maybe it’s because the ‘masses’ are discovering that journalism isn’t actually that hard. It’s just processing information (research) and writing about it.

¿Dónde están los banjos? says:
Actually “journalism” is, I would say, rather difficult.
Printing 6 pages on how big Jordan’s tits are though – that’s easy. As is regurgitating whatever propaganda your lord and master wants the public to see.

¿Dónde están los banjos? says:
Hmm – will you blog this?

Gordon says:
I will now!

Next up, a photo of some kittens (the last resort of blogging!)

bookmark_borderResolutions

Two and a half months in, are YOU sticking to your New Year resolutions?

I didn’t make any but I’m beginning to think I should have. Maybe it’s a reaction to my current workload, but I sometimes think I’d be better served if I had something to focus on, a hobby other than this one. Admittedly I am trying to be more organised, I’m pausing more often to consider whether what I am currently doing is what I SHOULD be doing, and I’m trying not to over commit on any side projects to ensure I have sometime left for me.

At least that’s what I hoped I was doing but my problem is when I DO have some free time as I usually spend it doing something unconstructive and pointless (usually Pro Evolution Soccer on the PlayStation if you must know). The camera lies untouched, the sheet music perched on the keyboard remains unturned, the book stack grows higher (although that’s primarily due to the amount of dust gathering atop the pile).

Trouble is I quite enjoy doing nothing. I quite enjoy switching off but only if I can remain occupied. Boredom is my greatest fear and it assaults me constantly, whether it’s being broadcast on TV (not so much of a problem these days), or manifesting itself in yet another boring rant or moan assaulting my ears and eyes it is ever present.

So I’m resolving to keep busy. Not overly busy, and not in any selfish way but busy as in focussed. The next question is – what should I focus on?

P.S. Drafted this last night. No inspiration to write anything else.
