bookmark_borderWhere was I?

Right, firstly, thank you to everyone for their birthday wishes, it was really nice seeing all those comments, very heart-warming and all that…

I had an excellent birthday, the meal on Friday night was superb (I’ll post details once I get home to consult the menu), and the hotel was sumptuous.

I did pretty well on the present front too, with my parents surprising me with a refracting telescope, something I know little about but will enjoy learning, and Louise got me (amongst other things) a DVD rewriter, and some WiFi equipment, so the geek in me is happy. Plus plenty of movies, books and so on. But, for the first time ever, I didn’t get any music! I’ll remedy that by buying my own of course…

Ohh yes, I got my cast off on Friday morning, so it was a good day from start to finish.

(And no, I’m not going to comment about Friday night other than to mention the double shower in the room *wink*)

I’m walking with a limp on my first day back in the office, and that pretty much describes my mood too. I think I’ll be limping along all day…

ON THIS DAY in 1973, I was born. Thankfully the midwife didn’t run screaming from the room, or so I’m told.

Three years ago I said this.

Two years ago I was too ill to mention it.

Last year I tore some ligaments in my ankle.

Today I will be getting the cast removed. Choosing a halloween costume. Lunching with parents. Watching the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Checking in to a posh hotel. Having dinner in the posh hotels restaurant. Retiring to the room for… my present…

Saturday night some friends are over for a drink or fifteen.

Sunday I’ll be recovering.

So I’ll see you Monday, have a good weekend!

British blog awards 2003.

It’s that time of year again, when normally sane bloggers throw up their arms and start shouting loudly about how it’s impossible to judge the ‘best’ of something… ohh except they won’t do that this year as they’ve categorised the competition.

Which category do you fit into? I’m guessing none. Get back to me if I’m wrong….

Just heard that a friends dog has died. Awful News.

I grew up with a dog (a golden retriever named Sintra) and know how close you get to a pet, especially one that has been about through your youth. Louise grew up with, well, lots of dogs as her Mum and Dad bred retrievers for a while. So we both feel our friends pain and are thinking of her at the moment.

It’s hard to explain, the bond between a pet and it’s owner, especially to people without pets or without a strong bond with them. Several stories of people losing pets at work have been met with derision by some people, the people who never had a pet and don’t want one. The people that did have pets understood fine well that a pet is a member of your family, like a brother or sister, and is loved in much the same way.

I’m gonna stop now, cos I think I just called my sister a dog… or something… but you get my point.

So, R.I.P. Oscar, may you ascend to doggy heaven and chase sticks across the cloud tops.
