Couple of quick questions
Does anyone notice or read the quotes that appear at the top of this page? (top-right)
Has anyone used the search engine to find anything on this site?
Should I change the ‘Tune of the Moment’ more often?

Robin Cook
I don’t tend to comment on politics but I did over at Shelaghs place. My initial reaction to the resignation of Robin Cook (aside from the usual burst of apathy) was that, once again, a politician was using a national event to play a political card.

However, Mr.Cook appeared on BBC Breakfast this morning, stating in full why he resigned, and talking about his resignation speech.

So Mr.Cook, I apologise (in part). I think you DID do the right thing, although I think that people should remember just how shrewd a politician you are, and all the implications that go with that statement.

Busy busy busy
“Chop chop, busy busy, work work, bang bang”*

We have more projects than people and I am pretty much flat out (except for the 60 secs it takes to type this thought) and despite all the stuff I need to get done ASAP, I’m bored.

Mind you I have found a little rip in my jeans which I’m pretty sure I can worry into a large hole by the end of the day… does that count as achievement?

*I wish I could remember what that was from… Marmalade Atkins popped into my head, but I’m not sure why…

Melancholy Monday
Can’t seem to get going today at all. Feeling melancholic.

So what seems to be the problem?
Well Doctor I just feel apathetic and listless and, well, I just want to wallow in self-pity for a while, maybe sit in a darkened room for the rest of the day.
Ahhh, you seem to be melancholic. I can give you an injection to help with that. If you’ll just bend over…

Crap. I shouldn’t even post this. But I will.

I think a chocolate boost is required. Anyone wanna split a Kit-Kat with me?

To do that is done
Flippin knackered…

  • Clear out bathroom cupboard
  • Clear out understair cupboard
  • Get new shower fitted (at last!)
  • Get haircut
  • Go to gym
  • Paint bedroom
  • Re-format old PC
  • Tidy office and shuffle desk
  • Sunday – go for family lunch (at Duck Bay Marina on Loch Lomond)

So far so good.. but I doubt I’ll see 10:30 pm tonight…

Google Blogger thoughts
How Blogger could do more than improve Google’s Web searches? (via Ev)

I’m not sure I agree with all of this article, specifically the ability to store links in a personal area which you can then search, I don’t really see how this is different from your Favourites list (especially as I’ve just downloaded an app that allows you to search your favourites list).

More interesting is the link at the bottom of the article to some thoughts written by Matt Webb which make interesting reading if only to see the thought processes and the benefits of discussion, with Matt, Ben Hammersley and Dirk bouncing off each other until they reach the conclusion that Google is building Memex (An idea thought up by Vannevar Bush in an essay published in 1946 which imagined the Memex as a machine of connected documents that assumed that a record of trails (links) would be of great use in amplifying the signal of human memory).

I have to say I find the whole idea fascinating, as I have long since bemoaned the ‘information overload‘ from which we all suffer. I am guilty of bookmarking a page or site to go back and ‘check it out later’ only to find it hidden deep in my Favourites list months later (by which time it is either defunct or of no use to me).

In fact I have already planned to revisit this topic and log my thoughts about the direction Google and Blogger may take, but I don’t think I’ll commit to anything.
