Weekender

Off to gym in a few minutes. My bag’s packed and ready to go, only trouble is that it will take about 20 mins to walk there, I’ll spend about an hour or so on an exercise bike, or treadmill or something, then have to walk 20 mins back to the station. Two workouts in one! Must be positive, must be positive, must be… maybe going on a Monday isn’t such a good idea? Weekend was quiet, dinner at in-laws (back from their hols), lunch at my parents. Very relaxing Sunday. Saturday was quiet too, just us. Next weekend is already pencilled in as D.I.Y. weekend. Painting the office wall (three are white, one is currently covered in a ‘lovely’ …

Food rules

a.lifeuncommon.org. In short, yes it IS that bad to use ketchup when eating steak. Steak should be enjoyed unadulterated. No peppercorn sauce, Diane sauce, or other such extravagances. A properly cooked steak will be succulent and juicy and will melt away in your mouth. Ketchup, steak, bad. Mind you it’s better than someone who is very close to me (you could say we were married) who likes to dollop ketchup alongside her steamed salmon. I’m not sure a word exists that describes the evilness that this is pertaining to. I mean, ketchup and salmon… bleuch.. (I’m hoping that the ketchup in question isn’t green). However I should temper this with my own guilty admissions. Tuna, Smash (Instant potato) and beans …

Appeal

Safiya Husseini – I’m amazed that this kind of thing still happens. I’m amazed that I didn’t hear about it until this weekend. I’m amazed that International governments haven’t intervened. I’m amazed at how disgusted and sickened I am by this. You can help. If anyone has more information about this, please let me know.

Pale Water

BBC Four launched yesterday with the tagline “Everybody needs a place to think”. The first thing it made me think of was ‘What happened to BBC Three? A quick puzzler for you, what’s the second verse of Jack and Jill (UK version please)… spent all afternoon trying to remember, so I looked it up, but I’m pretty sure this isn’t the version I remember as a child “old Dame Dob??”.

Plumbed

I keep forgetting. I have conquered (partially) my fear of D.I.Y. A couple of nights ago I happened to check under the sink for something, and found that the plant tray which, luckily, sits under the sink was full of water. So the sink was leaking. I would have to fix it. I hate fixing things, I hate maintenance of things, don’t mind doing new things, but someone else can look after them (I’m part Resource Investigator, part Implementer). Undeterred I decide to tackle the problem, after all it’s probably just a minor problem. So I cleared out under the sink, got buckets, cloths, tools etc (Will I need a hammer? Ummm maybe?). I thought the problem was the joint …

Timewarp

Schwa – 1996… 1996… oh my god have I been doing this for that long – I had one of those screensavers. Ohh don’t click the link at the bottom of the article as it is now an adult site (unless of course you are interested in wife-swapping).

Naked Dancer

They Have a Word for It (link via Caterina). Through my profession (Technical Communications) I have a passing interest in all things wordy/language-ey etc (despite my frequent bastardisations), and this kind of thing always piques my interest. It also reveals a lot about other customs and cultures, and shows the Western world up for what it can be, staid, conservative, and ‘safe’. I think we should encourage mbuki-mvuki more often.

Friday Five

Happy St.David’s Day everyone (well everyone in Wales…) the friday five 1. What’s your favorite vacation spot? Having not been away too often, I would have to say that Nerja, in South of Spain would be mine. It was our honeymoon location, and has a whole host of special memories that won’t be captured anywhere else. Would love to go back to Brittany as well. 2. Where do you consider to be the biggest hell-hole on earth? Are you allowed to nominate your home town? If it’s places I’ve travelled to, I would probably include Norwich – hotel was lovely, rest of the place was awful. 3. What would be your dream vacation? Hot, tropical waterfalls. Plenty to see and …
